Basketball is one of the most highly watched games in today’s generation. From famous Hollywood actors and actresses to the diehard fans from different cities to other countries around the world, even small children are being introduced to these games and are fascinated by the jumping and dunking that are happening during the game.
Like any sport, it is essential that before you start your training, you have to strengthen your legs by doing squats, dead lifts and exercises that focuses on leg workouts. Having strong legs in the game of basketball is vital because the sport itself includes a lot of jumping, and side from that, this prevents serious injuries by doing plyometrics workout for basketball.
The plyometrics workout does not only help you build leg strength but also strengthen your leg muscles and to help you jump higher and with power. With the combination of the two you will have power and rapid acceleration. This is due to elasticity of the muscles and the neuromuscular reflexes.
These are some of the effective plyometric exercises that you can use to increase your vertical jumps.
Single leg hop- Your right leg is in front of the left, you then push your right foot for a forward jump. Upon landing, jump again with your right foot and repeat the process. After a few repetitions, you can change your leg position using your left foot.
Box Jumps- While standing in front f a sturdy box, jump on top of the box with both your feet or by doing each leg separately. Te height of the box used depends on how strong your legs are. By increasing the box height, the more your legs get stronger.
Forward Squat Jump- In a standing position, jump in upward and forward motion as far as possible. Then quickly jump in forward motion keeping your feet on the floor as little as possible.
Squat jump- Start with squat position making sure that your hands is behind your head, the jump as high you can and upon landing you are on the start position which is squat. Repeat the process with quick movements. This trains your legs for acceleration and quick footwork.
Training in becoming a basketball player needs a lot of training and constant practise. Many have failed to succeed because they lack the encouragement, hard work, patience and self discipline to succeed. Remember, with the right attitude and perseverance anything can be achieved.
